Town councillors have doubled down on their objection to the latest scheme to repurpose a closed Warwick pub.

Warwick Town Council - alongside more than 100 residents - had already objected to Secret Properties Ltd's new application to repurpose the Punch Bowl, and has maintained its view despite slight alterations to the new plan.

Following the waves of negative feedback the applicants had submitted updated designs and a new noise assessment for the project.

Despite this, the town council objected again, saying: "The minor modifications proposed for amendment do not impact our objections already raised.

"Increase in traffic on this already congested, narrow section of road through a busy part of Warwick

"Poor air quality from circulating traffic will result in a negative impact on any future residents' amenity."

The council said the application still requires comments from conservation and environmental health officers.

Secret Properties has already seen a previous application to repurpose the building refused, and also failed to let out the venue.

The owner says converting the grade II listed pub to a house remains the only viable option - despite its pervious application being refused permission by the council.

"Buildings such as the Punch Bowl make a positive contribution to the streetscape as they give clues to the expansion of the town in the 18c therefore finding a sustainable use will maintain the character and legibility of the conservation area," the application said.

"The physical changes proposed by this application will not have an adverse impact on the conservation area, instead it will add another chapter in the long history of the site and its wider context."

If approved, the scheme would see some of the 20th century extensions removed, and some of the ground floor doors and windows reinstated.

As with the previous application, there would be internal alterations, with the kitchens removed.
