Local residents have until Saturday (September 30) to have their say on the new three-weekly bin collections, just over a year after they were introduced.

At the start of August 2022, Warwick and Stratford District Councils introduced the new 123+ bin collections across South Warwickshire, despite objections from the public.

A year on Warwick District Council says the new bin collections have led to recycling rates increasing by seven per cent to 60.5 per cent - well above the national average (44 per cent).

Meanwhile WDC says residual waster collections have reduced by 4,400 tonnes - the equivalent to a double decker bus load every single day.

The council said this is due in part to the weekly kerbside food waste collections and a wider variety of materials being recycled. 

And now an online survey has been launched to gauge local opinion.

"There's no doubt that the new service has brought about changes to the way a majority of households deal with waste, allowing us to collect more items such as black plastic and TetraPak cartons for recycling and also convert food waste to generate clean energy," Cllr Will Roberts, portfolio holder for neighbourhood services said.

"We would however be interested to hear from residents about their experiences of the 123+ service and whether over the past year local people have been recycling more at home or are now more conscious of what they are buying or throwing away.

"They are invited to share their views by completing our short online survey.

"It's also now important for us to address the areas of the district, particularly flats and those with communal facilities, who as yet are unable to reap the benefits of the new scheme." 

The 123+ system saw new weekly food, fortnightly recycling and three-weekly rubbish collections introduced. Locals also have to now pay if they want their green bins taken away.

Council officers in Stratford previously said the councils should be "singing from the rooftops" over the success of the new scheme.

The 123+ online survey is available on the WDC website until 30 September.
