A famous steam express will be collecting passengers at Warwick Parkway next month, as it makes the return journey from Birmingham to Salisbury.

The Cathedrals Express will reach the town on March 2, with tickets starting at £129.

Passengers will board the special at Birmingham Snow Hill, Birmingham Moor Street, Widney Manor, Warwick Parkway and Banbury, with Warwickshire travellers getting picked up at 8am.

Organised by Vintage Trains, the express will be hauled by Castle Class Earl of Mount Edgcumbe or Clun Castle.

The company's website says: "Our train starts from Birmingham Snow Hill and picks up at Birmingham Moor Street, Widney Manor, Dorridge, Warwick Parkway and Banbury before passing through Oxford towards Didcot Parkway.

"We canter along the rails ‘oh-so-familiar’ to our Great Western Castle locomotive and continue around the curve to Reading West and Basingstoke for a high speed gallop along the old LSWR main line and our entrance to the city through the curving Fisherton Tunnel.

"Upon arrival at Salisbury there will be ample time to explore this historic city, whether that is a visit to the impressive cathedral with its 400 ft spire, a browse through the Saturday market and many varied shops and restaurants, or maybe even catching the direct bus link to the nearby pre-historic ancient monument that is Stonehenge."

Passengers can pay up to £658 for a Pullman table for two.
