Police have reopened a South Warwickshire road after discovering what turned out to be the remains of a life-size doll.

Following a call from a member of the public, Warwickshire Police cordoned off a section of Lighthorne Road near Kineton to investigate what was believed to be human remains.

However, a forensic pathologist called to the scene quickly announced the body parts were actually those of a "realistic life-size doll".

The road near Kineton has since reopened and the force has thanked locals for their patience.

"As a force, we pride ourselves on being thorough," a Warwickshire Police spokesperson said.

"Police officers recently placed a closure on Lighthorne Road, near Kineton in South Warwickshire.

"A cordon was established to investigate what was at the time suspected to be human remains lodged underneath the brambles near to the side of the road.

"Following proper procedure, before we searched around in the undergrowth disturbing evidence, we called for a forensic pathologist to attend the scene and give confirmation that the remains were in fact human.

"It is with great relief that we can announce that the pathologist was able to identify that the foot and hand beneath the bush did in fact belong to a discarded and realistic life-size doll.

"We would like to thank the person who contacted us on discovery – the call was made in good faith – and also we extend our thanks to the local people for their patience while we investigated the matter."
