Car production in Britain fell by almost 24 percent in October which commentators have pointed to being a result of the continued impact of the cyberattack on Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) earlier this year (2025).

Local MP, Matt Western, who represents Warwick and Leamington where thousands of JLR employees live, says this "shows the utter importance and value of JLR to both our local and national economy".

Jaguar Land Rover is the country's largest automaker and have several local sites including Gaydon in Warwickshire, Solihull and Coventry who employ a significant number of people in the region.

In August 2025, JLR experienced a cyberattack which forced the company to shut down its production lines for September and some of October. It is believed to be the most damaging cyberattack in British history.

The Government agreed to support Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) with a loan guarantee, something which Matt Western MP said was "rightly backing British businesses".

Mr Western also pointed to growth statistics in July-September 2025 period which showed a slowing of growth to 0.1 percent which was identified as being down to a fall in car production due to the cyberattack at JLR.

Commenting on the various figures, Mr Western said: "I am constantly shouting about the importance of Jaguar Land Rover locally and nationally, it is because they matter and these statistics prove that.

"These statistics are disappointing but are to be expected with the serious impact of the cyberattack on JLR. They play a major role in our economy, and we feel it when they are out of action. We feel it locally and nationally and that is why it is right we back them.

"I remain amazed by those who seemed to be unbothered, or frankly celebratory, at the the thought of JLR going under. They should be honest, they're happy for thousands to lose their jobs and watch the economy suffer.

"JLR and its employees deserve our support. I have their back."
