Shell reveals plans to redevelop Hatton petrol station
Major redevelopment plans have been revealed for a petrol station in Hatton.
Shell UK has applied for permission to demolish and rebuild the current sales building at its Hertford Hill site, and to build a new EV charging "hub".
If approved, the scheme will also see more car parking spaces built at the filling station.
An application submitted to Warwick District Council says the scheme will "create an improved shopping environment and better facilities for customers, improving their experience visiting the site whilst also creating an improved working environment for those employed at the site".
It added: "It is not considered that the impact on surrounding properties as a result of these proposals will be any greater than the impact of the current service station."
The scheme will see no changes made to the current forecourt, and access to the site will remain the same.
Shell - which claims there are 30,000 fewer petrol stations nationwide compared to 60 years ago - said the project reflects the rising demand from customers.
"Fewer service stations are serving more motorists," it said.
"As a result, those individual service stations which remain and any new facilities are becoming increasingly busier, experiencing a greater volume of visitation rates and a greater throughput of fuel and are, thus, being made to work much more intensively."
The company, which runs 1,000 petrol stations in the UK, also says it is "encouraging the take-up of electric vehicles" by providing rapid charging points on many of its petrol stations.
Plans show that four EV charging points would be built, if the scheme goes ahead.
Shell has also recently been given planning permission for a new EV charging hub at its petrol station in Kenilworth.
