Residents 'appalled' by state of public toilets in Warwick
The state of the public toilets in Warwick has left residents "appalled" - according to a local councillor.
Cllr Katya Dray has called for the toilets at Market Place, Pageant Gardens and St Nicholas Park to be renovated and has also asked for the council to consider installing a gender neutral toilet in the town.
"Some residents have contacted me because they are appalled at the state of the public toilets in Warwick's Market Place, Pageant Gardens and St Nicholas Park," she said at last week's Warwick District Council meeting.
"Warwick is a tourist town that attracts many visitors each day, therefore I think it is important the town should have better toilets.
"It is also essential that at least one of the toilets should have at least one accessible gender neutral toilet so that everyone feels comfortable."
In response portfolio holder for neighbourhood Cllr Will Roberts said the blocks are cleaned at least twice a day.
He also said we would "take away and look at" the idea of a gender neutral toilet.
"The toilet blocks are fairly old and suffer regular misuse and deliberate damage," Cllr Roberts explained.
"There is some planned maintenance within the budget. In Pageant Gardens work is planned to repair the roof.
"In Market Place there was a fire last year, so that side was refurbished and there is a plan to update the other side.
"And in St Nick's the exterior and roof had been refurbished and an internal refurbishment is being planned after the peak season to avoid disruption."
