Up to £8million is set to be spent on an electric bus manufacturer's new technical centre in Warwick.

The new centre is set to open in June 2022 on Heathcote Way, creating up to 130 new jobs in engineering and marketing.

Owned by Switch Mobility, the new hub is part of a £300million project in the UK and India.

The electric bus and light commercial vehicle manufacturer has promised to create over 4,000 jobs, just a year after the company was formed.

And whilst on a trade visit to India last week Prime Minister Boris Johnson praised the investment.

"We are committed to rolling out next generation clean green buses in the UK, and Switch Mobility is at the forefront of that revolution," he said.

"This announcement will bring high quality jobs and skills to both the UK and India, and is testament to our partnership in the industries of the future."

The new centre in Warwick will be a focal point for Switch's global research and development team.

It will be led by chief technology officer Roger Blakey and will focus on developing Switch's next generation vehicles.

Dheeraj Hinduja, chairman of Switch Mobility added: "We are delighted that the Prime Minister has commended the investment Switch is making to become a leader in electric transportation as an example of the benefits of UK-India collaboration.

"Since forming Switch Mobility over a year ago, we have seen the pace of change to electric vehicles for public and commercial transportation increase significantly.

"With a strong order bank of nearly 600 buses and ambitious investment plans already in place, we believe we are well placed to capitalise on this growth."
