A £738,000 grant has been signed off to help a local needs housing scheme in Claverdon

Stratford-on-Avon District Council's cabinet yesterday (February 10) signed off on the funding for Warwickshire Rural Housing Association (WRHA) to help build the second phase of an affordable housing scheme on Breach Lane.

The development will provide 10 affordable homes of different types and sizes for local people, after planning permission was granted at the end of 2024.

Phase one was completed in 2020 and saw three affordable homes built. This was funded through section 106 payments - financial agreements between councils and housing developers to support local infastructure.

For the last seven years, the Parish Council, landowner and WRHA have been working in partnership to bring forward the second phase of the scheme identified in the 2022 Housing Needs Survey (HNS), which was commissioned by the Parish Council and completed by Warwickshire Rural Community Council (WRCC).

The ten homes - including ten bungalows - will see four social rent and six shared ownership properties built.

Work is expected to start on site in spring 2025 and take a year to complete.

Cllr Liz Coles, housing and customer services portfolio at Stratford-on-Avon District Council said: "I am really pleased that we are able to support this scheme and provide much needed affordable homes.

"Everyone deserves a safe and secure home, and good homes improve people's health and wellbeing, and the proposed homes will also help the council to meet its climate change obligations with the homes being built to the forthcoming Future Homes Standard."

Neil Gilliver, development services manager at WRHA said: "We're delighted to have Stratford-on-Avon Council's support to deliver these ten, much-needed affordable homes in Claverdon.

"It's a great example of how we're working in partnership in Warwickshire to provide genuinely affordable and energy efficient homes for local people."
