£1.32m fund announced to improve safety on South Warwickshire road
Road users across South Warwickshire will benefit from a £1.32 million boost to improve the safety of one of the "most high-risk roads in the region", the Department for Transport confirmed today (6 April).
The cash will be spent improving the A439 Between the A46 and the A3400 in Stratford-upon-Avon.
Through the safer roads fund, the highway forms part of 27 new schemes across England to improve safety, including re-designing junctions and improving signage and road markings.
The programme will reduce the risk of collisions, congestion, journey times and emissions - DoT said.
Exact details of the plans for the A439 have not been revealed.
To date, £100m has been provided through the programme to improve the fifty most dangerous roads in England, the majority of which are rural roads.
Transport Secretary Mark Harper said: "Britain's roads are some of the safest in the world, but we are always looking at ways to help keep motorists and all road users safer.
"That's why we're investing more than £2 million to improve roads across the West Midlands and this is the first crucial step to ensuring local councils have the support they need to keep everyone safe, while also reducing congestion and emissions."
Across the 27 schemes, £47.5 million will be spent, which should prevent around 760 fatal and serious injuries over the next 20 years, according to Road Safety Foundation analysis.
Elsewhere in the West Midlands the A4030 Between the A456 and the A457 in Smethwick will receive £750,000.
