A popular soapbox derby is set to return to South Warwickshire this summer, with sign ups now open.

The annual Avon Dassett Soapbox Derby will return on 22 June, with entrants given until mid May to put their names down.

The annual event - which this year will raise money for The Children's Christmas Wish List - will see competitors reach speeds of up to 55mph as they race down Church Hill in homemade machinery.

Last year saw over 20 competitors take part, with one crash during the day seeing teenager Fred Whyman break three toes.

The event brings thousands to the South Warwickshire village to watch the various heats and final.

Last year's adult winner - Paul Merry - completed the short course in just 38.68 seconds.

Organisers said: "Entries are now open for Avon Dassett Soapbox Derby which takes place on 22 June 2024.

"The Soapbox Derby is an exciting race, at high speed, on a challenging, twisty course.

"See here for entry forms and race regulations.

"Save the date for a brilliant, free, family day out!"
