Police seize car as elderly driver nearly heads down M40 in wrong direction

Police have seized the vehicle of an elderly man who had to be stopped from joining the M40 in the wrong direction in South Warwickshire.

Officers spotted the Fiat 500 in Warwick after concerns were raised about the driver who was "lost and very confused".

The driver did not stop for police when asked - despite his slow speed - so "low level tactical contact" had to be made to prevent him heading towards the M40 the wrong way.

The vehicle was recovered and the driver returned home into the care of family.

"We have submitted a report to the DVLA for his licence to be revoked," a statement from Warwickshire Police's operational patrol unit said.
