Police are appealing to parents following multiple reports of children playing on frozen water across Warwickshire.

Officers said nobody has been hurt but urged parents to speak to their children and warn them of the dangers of walking on the ice.

"We have received a number of reports today of children and young people walking on frozen water in the county," a Warwickshire Police statement said.

"Thankfully no one has come to harm but we are again urging parents to please speak to their children and warn them of the dangers of walking on frozen water if you haven't done so already."

The statement follows the death of four children who fell through the ice at Babbs Mills Lake in Kingshurst, Solihull.

A readers' letter published by Nub News last week praised a local "hero" who helped "avert a similar event" by getting a group of teenage boys to stop playing on the ice in Abbey Fields.

Deputy Chief Constable Alex Franklin-Smith said in a statement last week: "We would also like to take this opportunity to thank the members of public who quickly reported the recent incidents to us so that we could take the swift actions we did to try and locate and identify any people at risk.

"This needs to be a community response to this risk and together we can keep all of our loved ones safe this winter.

"On behalf of Warwickshire LRF and all the partners working to keep you safe 24/7, I wish you all a very peaceful and safe Christmas and new year."
