Plans to turn a "redundant barn" into a wedding venue have been put forward to the district council, but have already been met by fierce objections.

The planning application to convert The Old Dairy in Eathorpe -which also includes details for a new track and car park - says the venue could host up to 120 guests and up to two weddings per week.

So far over 20 objections have been submitted to the green belt development, but the application says the scheme will not impact the local area.

"The alterations to allow it to serve as a wedding venue will maintain the simple agricultural appearance of the building," it says. 

"This will allow the venue to harmonise with the natural landscape of the area."

The application added: "The venue will be the central part of creating the atmosphere at the happy couples wedding. 

"The venue's style will be key to defining the rest of the wedding theme. It needs to cater towards people's dreams, visions and needs; be of a sufficient size to accommodate their guests and within budget. 

"As such this is one of the most important choices that people will have to make and each choice will be unique."

Plans also show new trees would be planted around the Old Fosse Way building.

The application also says the proposal would have a wider benefit, with guests needing to stay in the local area.

Two previous applications to develop the building have already been rejected by Warwick District Council - both were for extensions to the building.

Meanwhile objectors say this latest application should also be thrown out.

"Eathorpe is a tranquil and settled village community, surrounded by open fields," wrote Cllr David Wray on behalf of Eathorpe Parish Council. 

"The proposed wedding venue would be less than 1.5 miles from the village and the inevitable noise it would produce would travel uninterrupted to the village across these fields. 

"This would result in a very significant change in the living conditions of village residents. 

"Village properties such as that in question are simply not suitable for the kinds of events the proposers have in mind."
