A village primary school has been given the green light to have solar panels installed on its roof.

Warwick District Council has said prior approval is not needed for St Peter's Primary School in Barford to go ahead with the scheme, which will see 37 panels installed on the roof to the rear of the site.

Plans - which were submitted by Aztec Solar Energy - show the set up would have a maximum output of 18.5kw.

"The panels are not considered to be significantly visually detrimental to the character or appearance of the host building or wider street scene," a council report said, signing off on the plans.

It added: "With regards to residential amenity, specifically to glare, the proposed solar panels would be installed on the front and rear sloping roof of the school.

"This part of the school's roof is to the rear of the building and is not near to any neighbouring buildings and as such these neighbouring buildings would not be harmfully impacted."

Fifteen neighbours were consulted by letter, including the flats within the nearby St Edith's House.

No objections were received.

Based at the University of Warwick's Wellesbourne Campus, Aztec Solar Energy works to help businesses cut their energy costs, by generating their own energy through "solar solutions".
