Plans to install nearly 1,000 solar panels at guide dog training centre revealed
Plans to install nearly 1,000 solar panels at the guide dog training centre on Banbury Road have been revealed.
Guide Dogs for the Blind Association has applied to Warwick District Council to cover the roofs of almost all the buildings at the Bishop's Tachbrook site with PV panels.
If approved, the scheme would see 962 panels installed with a capacity of 394.42kWp.
Guide Dogs for the Blind has previously said it is "committed to working in a sustainable way to make the best choices for the two million people in the UK living with sight loss, our staff, volunteers, supporters, and the world".
The application - which is yet to be determined - comes a few months after the charity submitted plans for a new training facility to be built on the site to create a "national campus for both training and breeding".
Plans show the new centre would include indoor and outdoor training areas, meeting rooms and 'dog day care' rooms.
If approved, the new training centre will be built on a parcel of land called the Tollgate which was used for training by the charity until the new centre was built in 2010.
The application says the association wants the centre to "be overlaid with an 'enhanced visitor experience', with improved facilities, telling the story of the 'life journey of a guide dog'".
