Plans to install nearly 1,000 solar panels at guide dog training centre given green light
Plans to install nearly 1,000 solar panels at the guide dog training centre on Banbury Road have been given the green light by district planners.
Guide Dogs for the Blind Association has been told it does not need prior approval from Warwick District Council to cover the roofs of almost all the buildings at the Bishop's Tachbrook site with PV panels.
The charity has been given the all clear to install 962 panels which it says will have a capacity of 394.42kWp.
Guide Dogs for the Blind has previously said it is "committed to working in a sustainable way to make the best choices for the two million people in the UK living with sight loss, our staff, volunteers, supporters, and the world".
"The design and colour finish of the proposed PV panels together with siting is considered acceptable from a residential amenity perspective," a council report said.
The application comes a few months after the charity submitted plans for a new training facility to be built on the site to create a "national campus for both training and breeding".
Plans show the new centre would include indoor and outdoor training areas, meeting rooms and 'dog day care' rooms.
If approved, the new training centre will be built on a parcel of land called the Tollgate which was used for training by the charity until the new centre was built in 2010.
The application says the association wants the centre to "be overlaid with an 'enhanced visitor experience', with improved facilities, telling the story of the 'life journey of a guide dog'".
