Plans for new Lidl between Warwick and Leamington revealed
Plans to open a new Lidl supermarket between Warwick and Leamington Spa have been revealed.
The discount retailer has submitted an application to Warwick District Council which states the new store would be opened at Europa House on Heathcote Lane.
Currently a warehouse building, the 2.12 acre site would also have a car park for 125 cars alongside the supermarket.
The application to the local authority at this stage is asking whether an 'environmental impact assessment' is needed for the development, before a full planning application is submitted.
"It is considered that the current proposal will not have any significant effects on the application site or its immediate surroundings, nor do the characteristics and location of development indicate that the proposal is likely to give rise to significant environmental effects," it said.
Plans show the Lidl store would be open from 8am to 10pm Monday to Saturday and from 10am to 4pm on Sundays.
The application continued: "The proposed development comprises a discount foodstore with a GIA of 2,185 sq.m with a net sales area of 1,516 sq.m.
"The development will incorporate 125 total car parking spaces, including six disabled, nine parent and child, and two EVC spaces.
"The foodstore will be sited to the north of the site, with a trolley bay located along the southern elevation, and parking in the southern and western areas of the site.
"Access to the site will be taken from Heathcote Lane."
Europa House has been on the market with property agent Wareing and Co and is currently listed as 'under offer'.
The application comes after Lidl last year once again asked locals to help find a potential new store location in South Warwickshire.
In a 'wish list' shared last spring, the discount retailer identified eight possible sites in the county, including Kenilworth and Leamington 'north' and 'south'.
Lidl already has a store at nearby Myton Road. It is unclear whether the new site would be a relocation, or whether the company would operate both sites.
