Nearly 9,000 crimes have been reported across Warwick in the past three years, with violence and sexual offences making up more than a third of incidents.

That is according to the latest figures released on the Police.uk website, which also show the number of reported incidents in the Warwick Central area were at their highest in the summer of 2022.

Quarterly crime figures show a drop off in crimes at the end of 2023, but figures were at their lowest in the town at the start of the year before.

The data - which is the most up to date released - shows 8,854 crimes have been reported in Warwick since April 2021.

Of those, 41 per cent were left with police "unable to prosecute suspects" and a further quarter saw no suspect identified.

Over the last three years 3,213 violent or sexual offences were reported in Warwick, followed by anti-social behaviour which accounted for nearly 20 per cent of recorded incidents.

Police have recently appealed for locals to report more incidents to them, saying they need help in catching criminals.

Speaking at the most recent Kenilworth Community Forum, PCSO Craig Ricardo implored residents to make sure they alert police to all incidents, no matter how small.

"We need help, we the police need help. If we aren't told about things, we cannot act," PCSO Ricardo told the forum.

"I am not naive, I am not silly. These are stats of crimes reported.

"There are a lot more crimes than what you can see, but people don't report them.

"People stop me in the street all the time to say 'did you hear about so and so, they got done the other day' and I ask 'did they report it?'

"The answer is always no. We get this all the time."
