Plans to move an overflow car park at Warwick Castle look set to get the green light despite receiving over 100 objections.
Castle owner Merlin has applied to move the car park from its current site next to the River Avon to an adjacent field.
The move would see an extra 100 spaces built, taking the total up to 1,400.
However, the 127 objections made have sited increased noise, air pollution and loss of privacy as reasons not to approve the plans.
Mr Colin Randall said: "Pollution, noise, damage to woodland and much decline In wildlife. All for more profit for Merlin. No thank you!"
Mrs Mandy Eaton added: "The woodland area adjacent to the proposed carpark has a wide array of wildlife and this will definitely threaten and have a negative impact on this important habitat due to associated fumes and noise.
"We live adjacent to the woodland area and as there is already a functioning overflow car park at the castle as well as other parking areas and feel that this redevelopment is definitely not necessary."
If plans are approved, the current car park would be returned to pasteur and have six trees planted.
The current gravel track would be removed and rebuilt for the new car park - which would still use the Stratford Road entrance.
No external lighting will be built and scrub planting is planned to help screen the area.
"All for more profit for Merlin. No thank you!"
Support
Whilst the wealth of comments have been objections, eight supporting comments have also been made to the application.
"As far as I can tell, this area has been used as an overflow car park for at least a decade and there have been no problems or complaints in all this time in relation to increased traffic or noise," said Ms Johanna Hobbs.
"The new field will have about 100 additional car parking spaces which will hardly make any difference to the general traffic level, especially since access into the car park will remain the same as at present."
Warwick District Council has recommended that the plans be approved but councillors will discuss the application next Tuesday due to the number of objections.
The officer's report said: "The relocation of the car park is not considered to harm the significance of the relevant heritage assets; the impact is considered neutral with the heritage enhancements that have been identified.
"There would be no detriment to residential amenity, highway safety, ecology or drainage and overall, for these reasons, it is recommended that planning permission be approved."
Adding: "A unilateral undertaking will require the cessation of the use of the existing overflow car park and its restoration back to pastureland, including the planting of parkland trees."
