New Co-op store 'brilliant' news for Warwick town centre
By James Smith 23rd Jun 2026
Warwick's MP has welcomed the "brilliant" news that the Co-op is set to open a new shop in Warwick's town centre.
Nub News revealed earlier this year, the Heart of England Co-Operative had applied for a premises licence at 40 Market Place for the new store.
Warwick District Council has since granted the licence for the building, which was home to The Original Factory Shop until it closed in mid-March.
MP for Warwick and Leamington Matt Western has welcomed the addition to the town centre.
He said: "Brilliant that Warwick town centre is finally getting a food shop back in the town centre. When M&S announced their shut down in Warwick a few years ago, I worked hard to try and keep it open and subsequently have pushed for a new food shop to open.
"Indeed, I approached the local Co-op at that time but then it wasn't considered right for their plans.
"So this is great news!
"Good for Co-op for choosing Warwick."
The Co-op is yet to confirm an opening date.
Warwick Town Council also said it was "delighted" the new supermarket is set to open.
"The arrival of a new supermarket and convenience store in the heart of Warwick is fantastic news for our town centre, helping to increase choice for residents, support footfall for local businesses, and bring a vacant unit back into active use," the council said.
"We would like to thank The Co-operative for choosing Warwick and investing in our town. We look forward to welcoming them and wish the team every success ahead of their opening."
Nub News has approached the Co-op for more information.
