Warwick's MP has visited both of the town's secondary schools which have been forced to stay partly closed.
Both Aylesford School and Myton School will only allow Year 7 and 12 pupils to return this week, with most of the buildings staying shut due to "safety concerns".
As the two schools continue to wait for a clear timetable for when all pupils can return safely, MP for Warwick and Leamington Matt Western today (September 4) visited both sites.
And the Labour MP has heavily criticised the UK Government for not taking action sooner.
"Firstly, I want to underline, categorically, that the problems faced by these schools are in no way the result of any mismanagement on their part," Mr Western said.
"It is shocking that the Government only informed schools of the need to act just two working days’ before the start of term.
"What is most disappointing is that the Government has ignored the reality, scale and seriousness of the issue of RAAC for years.
"As I’ve said elsewhere, back in 2010 they chose to rip up Labour’s £56 billion Schools’ Rebuilding Programme despite being aware of RAAC across the schools in this country."
At Aylesford, the school said it has taken expert advice and will only be allowing year seven students to come to school from Monday (September 4), followed by year 12 pupils on Wednesday (September 6).
The primary school - which was built in 2015 - is not affected by the closure, and all primary year groups will return on Tuesday (September 5).
Meanwhile Myton has pushed back Year 7 and 12 pupils from Tuesday to Friday.
"Why didn’t the Government act before? It had issued ‘RAAC questionnaires’ in March 2022 but ignored the responses," Mr Western added.
"When Myton School, at its own initiative, did its own survey in April this year and submitted it to the Government’s Dept for Education it was ignored. Until Friday.
"And now they have to wait for direction from the Government on what they need to do in terms of mitigation. For three days they’ve been waiting and still nothing in terms of what they should do and how it will be funded. And it will be expensive, trust me.
"Thirteen years ago this Government was lecturing us about fixing the roof while the sun shines.
"Thirteen years later, after the longest period of super-low interest rates, and they’ve not even touched those school roofs.
"I am working with the schools and am writing to the Dept for Education to get urgent action."
