More details revealed for planned path and cycleway along Myton Road in Warwick

More details of the planned footpath along a busy Warwick road have been revealed.

A full planning application for the scheme - which will connect Fusiliers Way and Myton Road - is expected in the coming weeks.

But outline plans put together by Warwick District Council have now shown the path near Myton School will ultimately be 850 metres long and five metres wide.

The outline scheme said the cycle/footpath will include a connection to Warwick Technology Park to the south of the Site.

There will also be a gate to Myton School and to Warwick School towards the centre of the link.

Two car parks will also be included along its length - but the number of spaces are yet to be confirmed.

Construction will require "the removal of some trees, hedgerows and vegetation".

"However, where possible the alignment and treatment of the proposed scheme have been designed to minimise the loss," the plans added.

"The existing hedgerows and grassland will be enhanced and when removal is necessary, the proposed planting will include native planting with other appropriate ornamental species suitable for the context whilst also allowing natural surveillance."

The new path will also be lit with lamp posts along its length.

The scheme was handed a planning boost this month as Warwick District Council - which also put forward the scheme - decided an 'environmental impact assessment' is not needed before an application can be submitted.

"Having regard to the characteristics of the development, its location and the nature of the potential impacts, it is concluded that an environmental statement is not required," a report said.

A public consultation on the path was launched last year, as part of a wider scheme to build a new athletics facility to replace the track at Edmondscote, a neighbourhood centre with local shops, employment land and a community stadium to serve as the new ground of Leamington Football Club.

A new nursery for pre-school children is also included.

The scheme to create a new footpath and cycleway to ease congestion along Warwick's Myton Road looks set to cost more than the £150,000 originally expected.

The proposed new budget has not been disclosed.
