Meet the candidates: Warwick West

This week, Warwick locals will head to the polls to vote in their new councillors for Warwickshire County Council.
All 57 wards at the local authority are up for grabs, with voting opening on Thursday 1 May.
Results will then be announced on Friday 2 May, including all Warwick wards.
We have asked each candidate why locals should trust them with their vote.
This is what the candidates for Warwick West said:
Mubarik Chowdry - Liberal Democrats
Mubarik was raised in Leamington and has lived in Warwick for over 17 years.
He works in global commercial cargo within the airfreight aviation sector.
Previously, he served as a town councillor, holding various high profile positions, and as a school parent governor.
Additionally, he has supported local charities through fundraising efforts.

Nigel Clarke - Reform UK
Nigel Clarke, the Reform UK candidate for Warwick West in the Warwickshire County elections on 1 May 2025, has been a Warwick resident for over 20 years.
Starting work at 13 in engineering, he built a career in IT, account management, and office management across Europe, Asia, and the US. Now running his own small business, he enjoys piloting gliders.
His political awareness began at school, questioning the costs of international memberships like the European Economic Community, favouring simple trade agreements.
Criticising the council for wasting taxes on neglected roads, education, and care, Nigel Clarke pledges, if elected, to deliver smarter spending, including better roads and de-congestion systems, a full audit of the council's spending over the past five years, advocating against using hotels for asylum seekers, prioritising social housing for locals, strengthening social care, and introducing free two-hour parking in town centres.

Moira-Ann Grainger - Conservative
I'm Moira-Ann Grainger and am delighted to be standing in Warwick West for this year's WCC elections.
I have a very long relationship with Warwick; I went to Coten End and Aylesford Schools, got my first job, married at St Mary's Church and bought my first home here.
Warwick is a unique place to both visit and live, but it needs strong councillors at all levels to ensure it has a prosperous future.
I am a past Warwick Mayor, district and town Councillor, I know how things work.
Warwick needs to be central to the economic future of Warwickshire, especially with a unitary council looming.
I will be that strong voice for Warwick West and the whole town.
John Holland - Labour
The county council elections are on Thursday 1 May. People who vote by post will be voting from mid April. I have a 100% attendance record at council and scrutiny committee meetings since being first elected in 2013.
Now I need your support to continue to work for Warwick.
Much done, more to do:
- Improve Road safety, more residential streets to be 20mph
- Support local businesses and care for the environment
- Support vulnerable residents in our community
- Deliver affordable local transport that goes where you need to go
- Give every child a good start in life

Supreet Tangri - Green
I'm standing because I want a strong Green voice for our area.
Existing Green councillors across Warwick district have worked hard for their area and successfully challenged the county council.
In the last six months alone they've stopped the Conservatives cutting youth clubs and library opening hours.
Working with others, they've also increased fly tipping enforcement and collection, added more funds to tackle antisocial behaviour and introduced soft plastics recycling.
Join so many people who are turning away from Labour and Conservative and looking for a positive option who will stand up for our area. Please vote Green on May 1.
