Warwick's MP has blasted the "absolutely delusional" Liz Truss for "rubbing the salt in the wounds" of voters with her new book.

The short-lived Conservative prime minister has this month brought out her new book 'Ten Years to Save the West' and has appeared on media outlets across the world giving interviews on the publication.

The memoir, which includes a number of revelations about her time in office, has been met with a great deal of criticism.

But Labour MP for Warwick and Leamington Matt Western has criticised Ms Truss in particular for refusing to apologise for the huge rise in mortgage rates which came after her 2022 so-called mini-budget.

"Truss has someone to blame for everything and absolutely no self-awareness of the sheer pain she caused so many," Mr Western said on social media.

"And to top it all off, she's still sitting as a Conservative MP, effectively given license by Sunak to repeat this nonsense day after day."

He added: "Local residents are constantly telling me about the pressure they're under due to the cost-of-living crisis. 

"Whether it is soaring bills, the cost of food or the rocketing of their mortgage payments, people are hurting.  

"I know you do not need reminding of the cause of these soaring mortgage payments and many of us would much rather forget the disastrous events of Sept-Oct 2022 including the mini-budget that inflicted so much damage on our economy."

Mr Western said the former PM was "haunting" voters with her round of interviews, and particularly criticised her for comments made about the passing of the Queen.

In an interview with Sky News, Ms Truss has blamed her spectacular downfall on the Bank of England and blamed the "deep resistance within the establishment" for her lack of success in office.

Mr Western has rubbished her responses.

"I'm sorry but she is utterly deluded! Sensible Tories would agree," he added.

"She has completely failed to reflect on the sheer damage she caused to our economy and the pain she inflicted on so many people up and down the country.  

"Whilst peddling her latest ridiculous theories, she continues to sit as a Tory MP, effectively given permission from Mr Sunak to peddle this nonsense. 

"Despite finding time for endless media interviews, the last time she spoke in Parliament before this week was December 2023.

"As she continues to pop up on our TV screens, radios and now in bookshops across the country, I can only help feel that frankly, I would rather hear from the lettuce."
