Significant progress has been made in recent weeks on the A46 Stoneleigh Junction improvement scheme, with the completion of the first four major support walls for the new bridge marking an important milestone in the project's construction.

The large concrete support walls, known as wingwalls, are critical structures that will support the new road and embankments leading onto the bridge.

In July, around 225 cubic metres of concrete were poured across four locations to create the walls, which range between 7.7 and 9.5 metres in height.

Following the successful completion of these first four structures, construction teams have moved on to the next set of wingwalls. The temporary moulds used to shape the concrete have been reused, and steel reinforcement is currently being installed ahead of further concrete works planned throughout August.

Cllr Stephen Shaw, Warwickshire County Council's Portfolio Holder for Transport and Planning, said: "Residents rightly want to see progress on this project, and that's exactly what is happening on site. The completion of these first four major support walls marks a significant step forward and shows the new bridge continuing to take shape.

"As a key part of the wider A46 Stoneleigh Junction improvement scheme, this achievement paves the way for the next phase of construction, which is already underway.

"While the project has faced challenges, our focus remains firmly on delivery. These latest developments demonstrate tangible progress on site and bring us closer to delivering the improvements that residents, businesses and road users have been waiting for."

Once these support walls are complete, the project will move into its next phase, which includes building up the structural foundations and road approaches that will connect to the new bridge.
