Leek Wootton hotel did not have permission to install new solar panels

A local golf club has installed new solar panels despite not having permission, and seeing a similar application refused months before.
A retrospective planning application for the solar panels at The Warwickshire Golf and Country Club has been submitted to Warwick District Council (WDC), saying they were installed last year.
However, it explains The Club Company UK Ltd - which manages the site - had not obtained prior approval for the installation before works began.
And a similar application for PV panels was refused by WDC in April 2024, with council officers saying there was not enough information about how far the panels would protrude from the roof.
A council report said the panels must not be more than 20cm above the height of the roof.
This latest application claims the panels should be allowed to stay, as they meet this requirement.
"The solar installation generates power to feed electrical systems and equipment within the building, contributing to local sustainable energy generation and reducing consumption of mains electricity, supporting national efforts to respond to the causes and effects of climate change," it explains.
The application says the system will produce 155kW of power.
It continues: "The installed system makes a valuable contribution to local renewable energy generation, supplying renewable energy to the hotel and its associated facilities, reducing reliance on mains power and supporting the national challenge of achieving net zero by 2050.
"Approval of this planning application will ensure those environmentally important benefits can continue in the future."
