The number of fly-tipping incidents reported across Warwick district last year grew 21 per cent, according to recently released government data.

The annual local authority data published last week shows that 2,032 incidents were reported in the district between April 2021 and March 2022, compared to 1,680 the year before.

Across England there was a 16 per cent increase in incidents, putting Warwick way above the national average.

Locally, 1,275 incidents were reported on roads, while there were 229 fly-tipping incidents reported on public paths and a further 298 on council property.

More incidents were reported across Warwick than any other part of Warwickshire - Nuneaton and Bedworth in the north of the county had 1,643 incidents.

In Coventry there were 8,473 incidents during the same period.

This equates to 24.7 incidents per 1,000 people - compared to 13.7 in Warwick.

Recently the owner of a car wash company in Coventry was forced to pay for rubbish fly-tipped at a farm near Crackley Woods to be removed.

Warwickshire Rural Crime Team interviewed the Spon End business owner after being called to the land by a local farmer.

The farmer received the money within 24 hours of reporting the crime, following a brief investigation by officers.
