Warwick District Council introduced the new green bin permits in August 2022

Green-fingered residents, who wish to continue having their garden waste collected, have been reminded to renew their green bin subscriptions.

With charges having been introduced by Warwick and Stratford District Councils last year, locals must now pay for the fortnightly service.

Residents need to renew their subscription for the period from 1 April 2023 to 31 March 2024.

The annual charge for this year is £40 for each garden waste bin permit - the rise in cost being due to the previous subscription just covering the eight month period from 1 August 2022 to 31 March 2023.

Residents who have signed up for reminders, via the waste collection app, will have already received a message to remind them to renew their subscription, however due to GDPR regulations, the district council has been unable to contact other subscribers.

Garden waste permits can be renewed online.

The council said there is a 10-day delivery between purchase and delivery of the permit.

Subscriptions are open all year, but the cost will remain at £40 with no pro-rata rate available.

Only green bins displaying the correct permit will be emptied.

Garden waste collected from households in the district is taken to an In-Vessel Composter (IVC) near Southam.

IVCs treat the material and ensure that composting takes place in an enclosed environment, with accurate temperature control and monitoring.

The material is turned into compost to be used as a soil conditioner in as little as two weeks, compared to three weeks for traditional outdoor composting.
