Healthcare firm 'blown away' by donations to charity drive to help the homeless
A Kenilworth healthcare provider has been "blown away" by the response of local people to its charity drive to help the homeless.
Back in October Kare Plus launched an appeal for donations of essential items to help those living on the streets this winter.
The Talisman-Square based business said it wanted to make a "proactive step" to help those facing homelessness, and opened its offices up to locals to drop off donations and make a "small act of kindness have a huge impact".
And just weeks later, Kare Plus is ready to make donations to three shelters across the region having received hundreds of items from residents.
"It was fabulous the response we have had," registered manager and senior operations executive Tracey Frisby told Nub News.
"We are going to be delivering the donations this week, to three different shelters in Leamington Spa, Birmingham and Coventry.
"We have had an amazing response from the community and I cannot thank them enough.
"Castle Nursery came on board and supported us, lots of people have come in to help and offer support."
Donations included blankets, duvets, sleeping bags, non-perishable food, shoes, hats and gloves, with many locals going out of their way to purchase and drop off brand new items.
The items will now be dropped off at Coventry Christmas Open Shelters, LWS Night Shelter in Leamington Spa and St Basils in Birmingham.
"We are seeing more and more people on the streets, it is on the news constantly, and we see it in person," Tracey added.
"We just thought we needed to do something to help.
"Often people are shocked at how much homelessness there is on their front door, people often think it's somewhere else. But it really isn't."
The news of the donations comes in the same week as Kare Plus has announced the launch of its new Home Care services, having received its accreditation from the Care Quality Commission.
