Locals are being asked to share their views on plans to build a major new retirement community to the south of Warwick and Leamington.

McCarthy Stone is preparing to submit a planning application to turn the vacant site off Habury Lane and Vickers Way into 47 one and two-bed apartments.

The company has launched an online consultation for the plans, before it submits the designs for approval.

"McCarthy Stone believes the site is in a suitable and sustainable location to not only provide much-needed older persons accommodation for people in later life in Warwick, but to also provide residents with a comfortable and good standard of living," the website says.

"The proposed scheme would transform an underutilised vacant site into high-quality specialist retirement accommodation, helping to support the sustainable urban extension in this area of Warwick."

Current plans include a range of homes for rent, private sale and part-rent part-buy.

The site - which backs onto the luxury Oakley Grange care home - would also include 34 parking spaces.

"Our vision involves developing this site with specialist retirement living accommodation comprising of apartments with indoor communal facilities, high quality landscaped gardens and on-site car parking, complementing the area," the website added.

"There is a real need for this type of housing in Warwick, with an ageing population and limited specialist accommodation for local older people to downsize to.

"Our proposals would help to address this issue, allowing local older people the opportunity to move into a more suitable home, whilst staying close to friends and family in Warwick."

Locals have until July 16 to have their say.
