New photographs show the progress on two new drive thru eateries at Leamington Shopping Park.

The former Frankie & Benny's restaurant at the Tachbrook Park Drive centre has already been demolished, with contractors working fast to create the two new fast food outlets.

Planning permission to create the drive thrus was signed off by Warwick District Council last year.

The application - first submitted in 2021 - said the units have been designed for Five Guys and KFC.

Warwick District Council has also recently signed off on the designs for a new set of EV chargers to be installed for the two sites.

The 12 spaces were due to be built in the car park right next to the drive thrus, but have had to be relocated elsewhere in the shopping park due to complications in getting power to the chargers.

The application said: "We include with the application, a suggested location for the EV spaces, with details to be provided as part of the condition discharge prior to occupation in order for the landowner to find a suitable operator for the EV units.

"The intention would be for the allocated space to provide a minimum of 12 EV charge spaces and whilst the rating of each charger would be dependent on power available, it is expected that they will provide a mix of 300kw and 150kw chargers."

The planning permission was granted to abrdn UK Real Estate Fund, just as it was reported the firm had sold the shopping park for £58 million to BRE IM.

After the plans were signed off by WDC last year, a KFC spokesperson told Nub News: "The rumours are true, The Colonel is coming back to town.

"We know we've got lots of KFC fans in Leamington and we've missed you!

"We're busy getting our chicks in a row but we can't wait to see you all next year.

"We'll be bringing buckets of your favourite fried chicken as well as more than 30 new jobs to the area!"

And while the planning application is clear that Five Guys would take over the second unit, a company spokesperson was less committal on the plans.

"Five Guys may be opening a restaurant next year in 2024," the Five Guys spokesperson said to Nub News last year.

"Nothing is confirmed just yet."

KFC and Five Guys have not responded to our most recent requests for comment.
