Former language school could be turned into nine-bed house
A former language school in Sherbourne which dates back to the 19th century could be turned into a house with at least nine bedrooms.
Sherbourne Priors, on Watery Lane, was first used as a training centre from 1978 and then latterly a English language school.
The centre, which had five classrooms and a games room, accepted children aged seven to 13 and housed them in dormitories.
A planning application, submitted to Warwick District Council, says that there will be no alterations to the building.
Built in 1865 by architect Sir George Gilbert Scott, the house was sold outside the Sherbourne Estate in the 1920's and occupied as a private house until 1978.
Estate agents Knights Frank marketed the building recently as a nine-bed house.
The brochure said: "The property is situated within approximately 4.67 acres.
"The gardens and grounds surround the property and have a range of mature trees, herbaceous shrub bed borders, a spinney and several paddocks that would lend themselves well to those with an equestrian interest.
"The formal gardens are mainly laid to lawn with attractive open views over the fields beyond."
The school sits within the local conservation area, and the planning application says: "It is considered that the proposed change of use of Sherbourne Priors will not prejudice the setting and character of the conservation area."
