The iconic Flying Scotsman will head through Warwickshire on Saturday (June 10) as the locomotive makes the return journey from London Euston to Chester.

'The Chesherman' steam express will stop at both Rugby and Nuneaton stations as the engine celebrates its centenary year of 2023.

Exact timings for the excursion are not available as the The Railway Touring Company and the National Railway Museum do not publish exact details, to assist the British Transport Police and Network Rail.

Organisers said: "The Railway Touring Company appreciate there is considerable interest in Flying Scotsman, but stress that anyone wishing to see Flying Scotsman on route should do so from a safe and permitted place - trespassing along rail lines or into prohibited areas of train stations is dangerous.

"It is vital that spectators do not venture onto the railway when Flying Scotsman is on the main line as a full timetable of regular services will also be running. For safety, keep away from the railway line."

After leaving Euston the express will climb up Camden Bank before continuing through Watford Tunnel into rural Hertfordshire.

The train will stop to pick up passengers at Milton Keynes, where passengers from Watford Junction will join by service train.

At Hanslope Junction, Flying Scotsman will leave the West Coast Main Line (WCML) and take the Northampton loop line, again stopping for passengers.

The express will pass the Daventry Railfreight Terminal before re-joining the WCML at Rugby, a further pick up stop.

It will then follow the Trent Valley Line to Nuneaton, the final stop to pick up passengers.

The express will then pass through Lichfield, then Crewe where it will take the North Wales Coast Line to Chester.

After four hours in Chester the express will then return south to London Euston.
