A flood alert for the River Avon in Warwick remains in place after prolonged wet weather.

First put in place by the Environment Agency on Monday (September 23), the alert warns of flooding to low-lying land and roads.

"River levels are forecast to rise at the Rugby river gauge as a result of expected heavy rainfall," the update on Thursday (September 26) said.

"Consequently, the risk of flooding remains. We expect flooding to affect low-lying land and roads adjacent to the River Avon between Rugby and Bidford including Warwick, Stratford upon Avon, caravan parks and farmland.

"Further rainfall is forecast over the next 24 hours. We expect river levels to rise until 4pm on Friday.

"We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are actively checking river levels and the weather forecast.

"Please move family, pets, possessions, valuables and cars to safety and avoid contact with flood water."
