Fishing has been suspended on a section of the River Avon due to the 'alarming' number of dead fish are found in local waters.

Barford Angling Association has made the decision to suspend fishing indefinitely, with the fishing season set to start again tomorrow (June 16).

A statement from secretary Paul King said: "Myself and the committee have come to the difficult decision to suspend fishing on the waters at the moment, as you know this Friday is the start of the season so this decision hasn't been taken lightly but the amount of dead fish in the Warwick area is alarming.

"We don't want to put any other fish under undue pressure as you can imagine we have the fishes welfare our top priority and we will monitor the situation closely.

"The Environment Agency are aware of this and it is not just our stretch of the river that's affected."
