A request to carry out "essential" works to a Warwick shopfront has been put forward to Warwick District Council.

The British Heart Foundation has applied for permission for a series of works at its grade II listed store at Market Place.

The building, which dates back to the 19th century, is said to new an array of work on it, including repointing, brickwork repairs, chimney stack repairs and works around the windows and cills.

If approved, works will also be carried out around the back of the property.

"Repair of the storefront and updated will improve the façade's appearance, boost retail viability and maintain the listed building's original character," the application said.

"General works constitute overdue maintenance of the heritage asset with sympathetic appropriate materials.

"This secures the building's longevity.

"Works are important in order to preserve and maintain the group value of the street scene and central market space of Warwick."
