'Disgrace' local residents may be plagued by flies again this summer

Local MP Matt Western has said it is "disgraceful" residents around Warwick Gates, Heathcote and Whitnash are likely to face another spring and summer with the homes covered in flies and a "foul odour" continuing to hang in the air.

The Labour MP's comments come after two years of problems, complaints, and public meetings around south Warwick and Leamington - with seemingly no resolution in sight.

No Mow May, the 123+ bin system, local house builders and more have all been blamed by locals on social media, but the route cause remains unconfirmed.

As the warm weather arrives, Mr Western said he is trying - and currently being prevented from being able - to arrange an unannounced visit to a potential source of the issue.

"I am beyond frustrated that we have still yet to see a resolution and remain committed to working alongside residents for as long as it takes to get sorted," the MP for Warwick and Leamington

"Some of you may be aware that I was keen to undertake another unannounced visit to one of the sites that many of you suspect is the source – I previously visited in 2023.

"It had been mentioned in my meeting with the Environment Agency (EA) and the minister, and I believed it would prove valuable to see the site first-hand as the weather was warming up.

"However, I have been informed by the EA that this is no longer possible, and the business will not allow this.

"I have made my thoughts on this clear to the EA and have also spoken to the minister about it. I have requested that an unannounced visit is once again made possible."

Mr Western said he is working on a number of other actions behind the scenes.

"Again, another summer dominated by this is unacceptable and I will continue to make this very clear," he added.
