A piece of land formerly part of a local college in Henley-in-Arden could be converted to public use, if plans are signed off by Stratford-on-Avon District Council.

GR8 Space Ltd has applied for permission for the plot off Stratford Road to be brought into public use, with planning permission to develop the former Warwickshire College grounds into flats and houses already approved.

The neighbouring development - which is already underway - will see the former college buildings demolished, 39 'new age restricted apartments' and 19 new townhouses built as well as Arden House converted into 15 apartments.

This latest application, which is from the same developer, will see a bigger piece of public open space created for the project.

"This proposed change of use application seeks to create a single consolidated area of Public Open Space measuring 2935sqm, (relocating part of the previously consented POS)," it explained.

"By providing all the public open space in one place, adjacent to Stratford Road and focussed on the historic War Memorial, it will be possible to provide an improved area of public open space that is more usable and accessible."

Plans show the land would be fenced and accessed by a sloped footpath from Stratford Road.

The application continued: "The whole POS area will comprise soft landscape planting and predominantly wild meadow/wildflower grassland with mown paths providing suitable pedestrian access across the space."

Warwickshire College closed the Henley site in 2016 due to dwindling student numbers.
