Delays to the A46 Stoneleigh Junction works have been due to a "supply issue" - local Liberal Democrat councillors have revealed.

Locals have continued to ask questions over the apparent lack of progress on the £38 million project, which will eventually see a new roundabout, and bridge built at the site.

While the new bridge deck was installed at the end of January, it is yet to be connected to the new road layout as the land around it needs to be filled in.

According to Kenilworth's Lib Dems, delays in supplying the backfill material are causing the hold up.

But the group has confirmed the project - which is being managed by Warwickshire County Council (WCC) - is still expected to be completed this autumn "subject to resolving the supply issue promptly".

"Work on and around the A46 has been slower due to various issues, most of which have now been resolved," a Kenilworth Lib Dem statement said.

"WCC is still working with its contractor regarding a supply issue for the completion of the new A46 bridge and unfortunately this is impacting on the overall programme; WCC is working to resolve this as quickly as possible.

"WCC is still working with the contractor to resolve the supply issue, which is to do with the backfill material to the new bridge.

"WCC has a preferred solution to resolving this, but as this will ultimately be owned and maintained by National Highways WCC needs to do due diligence and have National Highways approve the solution."

Recent progress has seen Dalehouse Lane and Stoneleigh Road moved to their new alignment, along with the opening of the new bridge over Finham Brook.

The reduced 50mph speed limit still in place along the dual carriageway.
