Councillors will next week decide whether plans for 16 new industrial units on the edge of Warwick should go ahead.

A report set to be discussed at Warwick District Council's (WDC) planning committee on Tuesday (September 9) recommends the scheme from Warwickshire Property Development Ltd be approved.

If it goes ahead, the development will see five blocks of units built off Fusiliers Way.

The planning application to WDC said there is a need for these "small starter commercial units" locally.

"The scheme is intended to provide a size and scale of business units to meet the identifiable market needs, which will support the retention of small scale businesses and encourage business growth within the locality," it explained.

"This will drive innovation and support wider supply chain and economic objectives which are important in offering a diversity and mix of uses."

If approved, 116 parking spaces would also be included on the plot next to Warwick Technology Park.

The site is part of a larger area of former farm land allocated for new homes, a secondary school, primary school, a local centre and community stadium.

Recommending the application be approved, a council report said: "This application would be the second phase in bringing forward the mix of uses proposed for the land to the west of the Fusiliers Way Spine Road.

"The development provides for commercial uses of differing sizes to provide much needed, modern commercial accommodation for new and existing businesses in the area.

"The development will provide employment opportunities in the local area that would benefit the district as a whole.

"The site specific elements of the development have been subject to significant negotiations through the course of consideration.

"This has resulted in a scheme that is acceptable to the consultees involved within the process subject to appropriate conditions.
