A couple who moved to the UK from Poland 18 years ago have finally bought their own dream home in the Warwickshire countryside.

Pawel and Julia Pieciak and their two children Sebastian, 13, and Natalia, 12, are due to move into their new three-bedroom Rothley house – a showhome at Bellway's Hazelwood development in Cubbington – later this year.

Pawel, 39, a self-employed video games programmer, and Julia, 41, who runs the administrative side of his business, have been wanting to enjoy the quiet life ever since they came to the UK in 2005.

Julia said: "Our dream when we left Poland was to find good jobs, get married, have children and buy our own home in a pretty English village. Now, after nearly 20 years, we have the final piece in the jigsaw and it feels wonderful." 

The couple, who currently rent a three-bedroom house in nearby Lillington and use one of the bedrooms as a home office, calculated they had saved enough for a deposit and decided to look for somewhere with a separate garage they could use as a workspace instead.

They started their search in the local area because they did not want to make a move that would mean the children would have to start a new school and make new friends.

"That was our main priority," said Julia. "That and the fact that my mother and three brothers all live in Lillington, after moving over from Poland, and I wanted to stay close to them too.

"I became aware of the Hazelwood development and registered our interest and told the sales team we needed three bedrooms and a separate garage, which was a must for our home office. In April, we received an email from Bellway saying they were selling the Rothley showhome and asking if we wanted to go to have a look.

"I went along with a friend and as soon as I walked through the door I fell in love with the place. I told my friend: 'This is beautiful. This is my dream home. I need to live here.' I told Pawel and when we went together for a viewing and he was smitten too. We went back the next day and reserved the house."

Pawel and Julia are delighted that all they have to do is buy some furniture for their new house.

"The interior design team has decorated and furnished the house exactly as we would have done," said Julia. "It is absolutely amazing. It's as if we have given them a brief and they have followed it to create our perfect home.

"We will need to buy sofas, beds and other items of furniture but we would have had to have done that anyway. The money we will save by not having to decorate the walls, or buy blinds, curtains, mirrors or paintings and other accessories will go towards that."

The family of four and their two house cats Sisi and Gizmo are due to move into their new home before the end of this year.

"Natalia and Sebastian can't wait to move in and have their own bedroom for the first time ever," said Julia. "Natalia has claimed the bigger of the two bedrooms on the first floor as her own as she has more 'stuff' than her brother.

"Pawel and I are very excited too because we will have our very own sanctuary in the huge main bedroom, which takes over the whole of the top floor. We have never had a bedroom with an en suite before, so that feels like a real touch of luxury.

"In our rented house we only have one bathroom so when everyone is getting ready in the morning for school and work it is pretty chaotic and creates a bit of a mad scramble for shower time. Soon we will have our own separate bathrooms and there is even a cloakroom on the ground floor, which will make things even easier."

Pawel predicted that the garage will be his favourite space at the new house.

"The garage will be converted into an office for myself and Julia," he said. "At the age of 12 back in Poland I told myself I wanted to work in the video games industry. There was no such industry in Poland so I had to move to the UK to make that happen and I have worked hard.

"I have my own business and will soon have a dedicated office right next to my house. That will be incredible and will double up as a games room for me. The thing is that when I am playing games, I can justifiably say to Julia that I am actually carrying out valuable research."

The couple said they were very happy with the service they received from Bellway and would recommend the housebuilder to family and friends.

"The sales advisor Elizabeth was brilliant," said Julia. "She was very helpful indeed and could not do enough for us. She took control of the situation and has made the whole house-buying process very smooth."
