Prior approval to install a series of solar panels at The Warwickshire Golf And Country Club has been refused by Warwick District Council (WDC).

The local authority said the applicant - The Club Company - had provided "insufficient information" to allow planners to make a full decision.

Prior approval applications are made to streamline the process of asking for permission for certain types of development, without the need to ask for full planning permission.

However, the Leek Wootton club may now have to go down the latter route after its 150kWp set up was refused.

"Based on the…assessment, it is considered that the developer has provided insufficient information to enable the authority to establish whether the proposed development complies with the limitations specified in Class J [of the Town and Country Planning Act]," a council report said.

"It is therefore recommended that the application is refused."

In particular WDC questioned how high the mounted panels would be from the roof.

The council did, however, note the panels would not have an adverse impact on local residents.

"With regards to residential amenity, specifically to glare, the proposed solar panels would be installed on the roof slopes of the hotel," the report added.

"There is a residential apartment block opposite the hotel, known as The Hayes, which is well separated from the proposed PV panels and as such these neighbouring buildings would not be harmfully impacted."

Last year WDC did grant planning permission for 27 new rooms to be built at The Warwickshire.
