A Warwick takeaway can now be turned into a family home after plans were signed off by Warwick District Council (WDC).

GAD New Build Ltd has been given the green light to convert Millennium Wok on Emscote Road into a three-bed house.

Plans submitted for the Chinese takeaway said the building was bought specifically to be turned into a house, after local estate agents had failed to market it successfully as a business.

The Hatton-based firm has now been given the go-ahead for a number of cosmetic works for the property, including the removal of the signs and replacing the windows

Some repairs will also be needed for the roof, with the garden to be “revamped and separated from the existing parking area to create a private amenity space”.

Plans show the existing flat roof will become pitched and the porch area will be replaced with a small extension.

The internal layout would also be altered.

The application explained: "All work will be carried out in a sympathetic manner to the style and character of the original building as well as the neighbouring buildings utilising reclaimed and new materials where appropriate.

"There is suitable space for a rear garden/private amenity space and the existing parking area will be utilised.

"The use of sympathetic hard and soft landscaping will ensure it fits in with the street scene and surrounding dwellings.”

Signing off on the application a WDC report said: “The proposed change of use, extension and alterations are considered to be acceptable in principle and would not have a harmful impact on neighbouring residential amenity, or the character of the area.

“There would be no increased demand on parking as a result of the change of use.

"The proposed change of use is therefore recommended for approval.”
