Councillors will next week make a decision on whether to allocate £1.5 million to completely remodel a busy Warwick junction.

Warwickshire County Council is now working towards a project which would see the existing roundabout at the junction between Banbury Road and Myton Road removed and replaced with a new crossroad with traffic lights.

If approved, the £1.5 million budget will all be taken from section 278 funding - money given to the council by housing developers.

The project comes as an add on from the Asps housing estate, which is being built along Banbury Road.

The development - by Taylor Wimpey and Bloor Homes - will see up to 900 new homes built as well as a primary school, local centre and park and ride facility with 500 spaces.

Changes to the junction at Banbury Road and Myton Road are needed to accommodate the increased traffic expected in the area.

"The section 278 works will introduce a signalised junction to replace the existing roundabout at the junction between Banbury Road and Myton Road," a council report said.

"The localised carriageway will be widened to introduce a dual lane exit onto Banbury Road south.

"Banbury Road and Myton Road will remain as two-lane entries into the signalised junction.

"Bridge End to be changed to entry only with a raised table."

A decision on the budget is expected on Monday 18 March.

No timeline for when the new junction would be finished has been included in the council's report.
