The county council has issued an update to residents in Hatton facing months of roadworks, admitting a previous letter to locals could have been "explained better".

Controversial works for Taylor Wimpey's new housing development on Birmingham Road are now underway, with motorists set to face delays for around 11 months.

The project to widen the road, build a pedestrian crossing point, and to improve footways, cycleways, drainage and street lights were due to begin in October but started at the end of last month.

Warwickshire County Council has promised to keep disruption to a minimum.

But in an update on the authority's website, it said it wanted to provide more clarity on the plans and apologised for "any confusion caused" by its letter at the start of November.

"Engineering design services have acknowledged that the temporary traffic signals arrangement detailed within our letter may have been explained better," it said.

"The temporary traffic signals are programmed by our on-site team to ensure traffic flow and safety within the zone.

"This is monitored by an on-site traffic operative throughout the day.

"Priority is given to traffic travelling towards Warwick in the morning and out of Warwick in the evening and these times can be adjusted as necessary.

"This prioritisation balances the queues of traffic east and west bound and minimises delays for the travelling public in both directions.

"A pedestrian-button controlled facility is incorporated in the system for the public protection and safety when crossing.

"The third signal head from the Taylor Wimpey Union View development - site will be on a vehicle activated sensor, therefore this signal head will only be activated when there is a vehicle present.

"Outside working hours, the signals eastbound and westbound traffic is given equal priority and will respond "on demand" to traffic where appropriate."

Work on the highway will pause for around two weeks over the Christmas and New Year holiday period, from Friday 22 December 2023 to Tuesday 2 January 2024.
