Fixing the leaking roof and installing new solar panels at Warwick's leisure centre are now looking set to cost £450,000.

Warwick District Council (WDC) approved a £350,000 spend for the works in June, but the costs have continued to rise.

Cabinet will this week discuss adding more to the budget after more "complications" which were "not evident prior to beginning works" were discovered.

"These issues centre primarily around meeting the stringent fire safety requirements of the building insurer," a council report said.

"As a result, project costs have increased if WDC are to deliver the works as initially proposed."

Problems with the roof were discovered as the council looked to install the new solar panels.

If approved, £60,000 would be added by WDC, with £40,000 coming from Everyone Active.

The report continued: "Additional funding of £60,000 will allow the installation of essential roof access equipment to enable ongoing maintenance and repair.

"Potentially avoiding future problems of roof failure whilst delivering the two largest PV arrays initially designed.

"The increase in budget will also allow the installation of drainage systems, to redirect rainwater runoff, and increase the life expectancy of other areas of the roof."

Having initially been refused funding from Sport England for the panels, WDC was offered £292,000 for the project.

It then had to get the works underway by September.
