A closed Warwick car park could be replaced with "specialised form of housing" - but no decision has yet been made on its future.

Linen Street multi-storey was shut by Warwick District Council (WDC) in July 2021 due to "structural issues," with the upper levels having already been shut for a number of years.

But as the facility and others across the district wait to be knocked down, Cllr Chris King updated councillors at last week's full WDC meeting.

"Linen street has been closed for safety reasons and it is the subject of feasibility work to determine its future use which is highly unlikely to be as a future car park," he said.

"It is much more likely to be used as a site for a specialised form of housing.

"It is a challenging site so I am unable to advise you on the outcome of the feasibility work.

"The demolition work is under consideration now."

The council is also working to sign one contract for the demolition of Linen Street, Christine Ledger Square and Covent Garden.

Cllr King said the local authority is "very close to signing contracts" which should see asbestos cleared at Christine Ledger Square before it is flattened in 2025.

Meanwhile at Covent Garden - which closed in 2023 - a planning application for its remodelling is yet to be decided on. This could see the lower floors retained for parking once the upper levels are removed.
