A former caretaker's bungalow at Warwick School is set to be used by a chamber orchestra which will provide workshops for the school's pupils.

The Myton Road school has been given planning permission to turn the home into an office, meeting room and rehearsal space by Warwick District Council.

There will be no physical changes to the building, but the application says it will now be used by the Orchestra of the Swan.

The application said: "Warwick School Foundation is offering the space to them as a partnership which allows them to use the schools' facilities and provide workshops to foundation pupils.

"It is labelled a residency."

It added: "The change of use will allow for additional facilities and skills to be available to students on-site whilst allowing for the school's music rooms and concert hall to be shared with The Orchestra of the Swan.

"This benefits both parties without detrimentally impacting the school or surroundings."

The building is vacant and has been since summer 2021 but will now have space for nine people to work there.

The orchestra is currently based in Stratford-upon-Avon. The registered charity was formed in 1995 and is currently directed by David Le Page.

The website says: "The Swan is passionate about audience inclusivity and blurring the lines between genres through its adventurous and accessible programming."

Signing off on the plans a WDC report said: "The proposal is not considered to cause harm to heritage assets and preserves the setting of the conservation area."
