Flooding on Princes Drive in Leamington yesterday (October 28) was due to a blocked sewer, the county council has confirmed.

Warwickshire Police closed the busy road on Monday afternoon, causing severe delays to motorists in the area, after around 2.5 feet of water was reported near the railway bridge.

The closure was then handed over to Warwickshire County Council, which helped reopen the road.

The road has been open again all day today (29 October).

"Princes Drive in Leamington was closed by Warwickshire Police yesterday (28 October) due to flooding from a Severn Trent Water sewer which had become blocked," a council statement said.

"Severn Trent attended to unblock and cleanse the sewer, which took most of the afternoon and early evening.

"Once done, they also cleaned the road surface to ensure the safety of motorists.

"WCC County Highways gave assistance as needed from mid-afternoon and the road has been open all day today."
